The doctor will perform a physical evaluation of the patient’s mobility and range of motion. Once the root cause and the extent of the pain are identified, Dr. Badday will discuss treatment options with the patient and select the option that will relieve the pain and allow for treatment of the root cause.

What is the difference between acute and chronic pain?

Acute pain begins abruptly and typically feels sharp. Broken bones, cuts, or burns are traditional examples. Acute pain can be mild and only last briefly. It can also be severe and last for up to a few months. In most cases, acute discomfort does not persist past 6 months and it discontinues when its underlying cause has been addressed. If the problem which caused the short-term pain isn’t addressed, it can lead to more long-term or chronic pain. Chronic pain is defined as that which does not improve after time has gone by and is usually related to an underlying condition like arthritis, disc degeneration, or sciatica.
